Artist Statement | Helle Cook | Sea of Light
Helle Cook is a Danish-Australian Artist based in Meanjin-Brisbane. In translucent layers of paint she explores the sensory experience of light, place and belonging. When drawing parallels between Nordic and Australian light and landscape, it is particularly the illuminated expansive horizons by the sea and Hinterland beyond that inspires her work. Helle's painterly enquiry expands beyond the studio as she often spends time in nature with her diaphanous textiles which she carefully installs and documents as they interact with the elements. It is an awe-inspiring process which greatly informs Helle’s paintings back in the studio. The luminous paintings invite the viewer to connect with our own sensory perception and imagination. Helle holds a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours). She has exhibited and been artist-in-residence across Australia, Italy and Denmark. |
