BIO | ARTIST STATEMENT: Helle Cook is a Danish-Australian artist based in Brisbane. Cook's art practice explores the embodied and sensory experience of light, place and belonging in expanded painting. Through the lens of light Cook draws parallels between Australian and Nordic Light. Evocative and immersive, Cook’s work lingers in the threshold between abstraction and figuration and invites the viewer to connect with our own sensory perception and imagination. Cook holds a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) from Queensland College of Art (QCA) and has had solo- and group exhibitions in Queensland, Victoria and Denmark. Cook’s painterly enquiry is intercultural and she has undertaken artist residencies in Australia, Italy and Denmark.
